2 am thoughts

I have this weird moment at nights when I suddenly wake up and I am super productive… I’m not sure if it’s because of anxiety or excitement but I have a ton of ideas and thoughts that are really interesting and helpful. The other night I woke up to drink some water and ended up writing a ton of ideas for my videos and sketches. Writing down things really helps as it gives clarity about what needs to be done and also how it can be done. An additional benefit of writing is that you cannot remember everything that you think and if you have written something you can always go back to your notes and work on it. It’s not necessary to write down a whole script or something..: just some pointers work. I recently made a list of sketches that I want to complete. The list includes a set of 12 sketches but with a different concept and a different art medium.  Speaking of 2 am- is it some sort of magical time where the brain is at its peak? I have noticed a couple of times that this time slot b...

Patience

Art is more than just about paints, strokes, and perspectives, it is more importantly about Patience. Sometimes I get carried away by the speed at which some artist makes artwork and to some extent, it puts me into self-doubt (I think every other artist out there suffers from this problem). Right after I have finished a wonderful piece, although it took days to complete, I have this urge to finish the next projects in a matter of minutes. This attitude at times has a negative effect on my productivity. Nothing happens quickly. Even though you might see some videos in which the artist finishes an artwork in a couple of hours or minutes, the person has at least spent a couple of years doing it with that precision. It is necessary to have a goal and make smaller steps or goals to reach there. Achieving these smaller goals can also act as a motivation to keep working. At times I come across a different style of art and I feel I have to make that... that looks so cool. I open a canvas and...

The Progress

Image
I started sketching during my school times. I used to draw something from the textbooks, comics or artbooks that were gifted to me. We did have an art class in our school, but in India (at least where I studied) it was more like a time to chill with your classmates or finish up your homework. I had a couple of classmates who were really great at sketching and painting, but there was a lack of motivation. Art in India is still seen more like a hobby than a carrier option. Although, in the past few years, people have started supporting artists and encouraging them to take it up as a full-time thing. Once secondary schooling was completed there was no official art(painting, sketching, etc.) class throughout my college years. Every time I took the pencil to start something new, there was a minute of doubt -where am I heading with this, is this going to turn out to be a waste of time. On the other hand, I couldn't live without painting. So, I used to start the piece and keep going. Some...

Dream to Reality

This was like the commission that every artist dreams of; something that is challenging, makes you think, activates your brain cells. You know it from the moment you are assigned the project that its going to be unique, its going to be something so different (although the style may not be new), nothing like this is ever made and maybe won't even be made in the future.  It's the work that involves a lot of thinking, exchange of thoughts, ideas, visuals, references. You have an idea of what you and the client want, but it all comes to that stroke of paint that ends up on the canvas. A project of immense size, something you haven't take up before. It's all exciting and dreadful, will I be able to deliver. (dramatic pause) AND then, the day arrives when you have to begin, put down the first stroke of paint. The process then takes its course, with adding something, changing some bits and adding more paints, more changes, more paints, smudging, changing the composition, and ...
